[1] Reynolds is frequently reported as having been born in Waycross, Georgia, and in fact Reynolds on many occasions has given Waycross as his birthplace. This is incorrect. He was born in Lansing, Michigan, where his family resided at least from 1923 until 1941. The actor's name appears in the Ingham County (Michigan) Birth Index for 1936. Subsequently the family moved to Waycross and from there to Riviera Beach, Florida, where his father was police chief. It should also be noted that his father's middle name and his are not the same, though his full name is often listed as "Burt Leon Reynolds, Jr."
