Claire Danes AKA Claire Catherine Danes Born: 12-Apr-1979 Birthplace: New York City
Gender: Female Race or Ethnicity: White Sexual orientation: Straight Occupation: Actor Nationality: United States Executive summary: My So-Called Life Claire Danes started taking acting lessons at the prestigious Lee Strasberg Institute when she was 11, and quickly won a role as a molested child in a film student's short film, Dreams of Love. At 14, she turned down a small role in Schindler's List to star in the TV teen drama, My So-Called Life. The show attracted a small but loyal audience but hovered near the bottom of the ratings, as Danes made her feature film debut playing Winona Ryder's younger sister in the 1994 remake of Little Women. After several supporting roles, she starred in I Love You, I Love You Not opposite Jude Law and Romeo + Juliet opposite Leonardo DiCaprio.
In 1998, after filming Brokedown Palace in the Philippines, Danes told reporters on the film's promotional tour that Manila was a "ghastly and weird city" that "smelled of cockroaches, with rats all over, and there is no sewerage system, and the people do not have anything -- no arms, no legs, no eyes." Oddly, these remarks did not go over well in the Philippines, where most people actually do have arms and legs and flush toilets.
