Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (19-May-1999)
Director: George Lucas Writer: George Lucas Producer: Rick McCallum Keywords: Sci-Fi, Star Wars, Robots Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and Jedi apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi bring Queen Amidala to the Republic capital Coruscant via Tatooine, where young Annakin Skywalker is introduced. Their intention is to mediate a dispute between the Trade Federation and Naboo, Amidala's home. First of three prequels to the Star Wars (1977) trilogy. Entertaining and with stunning visual effects, with an excellent fight at the end. But the film is a great disappointment compared to the promise of the original trilogy. Noticeably lacking in character development, it is devoid of proper storyline and suffers throughout from inept pacing. Many key events are foregone conclusions; we thus witness characters that are merely going through their paces.
