Luke Skywalker and friends rescue Han Solo, frozen in carbonite on Tatooine, from Jabba the Hut; Luke returns to Dagobah where Yoda informs him Darth Vader is in fact his father and Leia his twin sister; another Death Star is under construction with its shield generator on Endor, home moon of the Ewoks; rebel forces launch an attack on the half-completed Death Star as Ewoks battle storm troopers on Endor. Film is tainted by the presence of the Ewoks, a ham-handed merchandising ploy; by far the weakest of the original trilogy. Won a special Oscar achievement award for Visual Effects; received 4 Oscar nominations including Best Set Decoration and Best Original Score.
