A virus intended to cure cancer ends up having malignant effects. It kills 9 out of 10 of the population outright, and of the remainder, 99% are rabid animals which are harmed by daylight. The 1% left over are food. An immunologist alone in what is left of New York City struggles to find a cure and retain his sanity.
