Hughes Electronics
COMPANY
Formed when General Motors purchased Hughes Aircraft from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and merged it with DELCO Electronics, 31 December 1985. The name Hughes Aircraft lives on as a division of Hughes Electronics, and in 1995 General Dynamics' missile business was acquired and merged in as well. Also in 1995, Magnavox was acquired for $382.4M. In 1997 Hughes Aircraft merged with Raytheon. Sale of Hughes Electronics to EchoStar pending as of February 2011.
