Karen Grassle played Caroline Ingalls, Ma to Michael Landon's Pa on Little House on the Prairie, based on Laura Ingalls Wilder's series of books. The series ran nine seasons, but Grassle and Landon were not seen on screen in the final season.

Prior to Little House, her closest brush with fame was understudying Blythe Danner in the early-1970s Broadway run of Butterflies Are Free. Since Little House on the Prairie, Grassle has worked in local and regional stage productions, and taken rare roles in films and television. She was featured in Harry's War, a 1981 movie beloved by libertarians for its anti-IRS plot line, and she had a tiny role in the Kevin Costner film Wyatt Earp. She wrote and starred in Battered, a 1978 TV movie about abusive relationships, and reprised her Ma Ingalls role in two TV reunion specials.
