Having been a writer at Saturday Night Live for almost 20 years, he is also the main creative force (with J. J. Sedelmaier) behind SNL animated mainstays "The Ambiguously Gay Duo", "The X-Presidents", and "Fun with RealAudio".
In 2000, Smigel landed himself a short-lived but memorable show on Comedy Central called TV Funhouse. It was a farce of children's television programming containing a mix of live critters and profane animal puppets. While the show's human host Doug inadvertently seeds antisocial ideas in the mind of the supposedly young viewer, his Anipals are depicted as routinely pursuing a range of unwholesome interests, including drug and alcohol abuse, gambling, fetishistic sex, cannibalism, and autocoprophagy. It only lasted 8 episodes. Father: (dentist) Wife: Michelle Saks-Smigel Son: Daniel Smigel (b. 1998)
