Already with 30 years of racing under his belt, he was NASCAR Premier Series Rookie of the Year in 1989, earning six top-5 finishes that season. Trickle won over 1000 races in his career, but only one major NASCAR race -- the 1990 Winston Open. Trickle died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his pickup truck, helpfully parked at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Boger City, North Carolina.
