Sheri S. Tepper AKA Sheri Stewart Douglas Born: 16-Jul-1929 Birthplace: Denver, CO Died: 22-Oct-2016 Cause of death: unspecified
Gender: Female Race or Ethnicity: White Sexual orientation: Straight Occupation: Author Party Affiliation: Democratic Nationality: United States Executive summary: The Gate to Women's Country Author Sherri Tepper is best known for such science fiction novels as Grass, The Gate to Women's Country, and Beauty. Born in 1929, Tepper's first published work was a poem ("Lullaby, 1990") published in 1963 under the name Sherri S. Eberhart. Additional poems followed, but Tepper soon quit publishing until she reemerged in the 80s with such novels as King's Blood Four (1983), Necromancer Nine (1983), Wizard's Eleven, and Revenant (1984).
Although generally glossed as a writer of "feminist science fiction", Tepper's speculative fiction goes far beyond explorations of male/female dynamics, and her female characters are not all strong and gutsy. She has been praised for having "an astonishing assuredness of narrative voice" and criticized for sometimes writing male characters that seem doomed by their own testosterone. Although her work outside science fiction has been sometimes termed fantasy, it has been pointed out that it is better termed "science fantasy" to distinguish it from more typical sword and sorcery offerings. Tepper has also published under the pseudonyms A. J. Orde, E. E. Horlak, and B. J. Oliphant. Husband: Gene Tepper (one son, one daughter)
