[1] Born without a middle name, the "L" was later added as an affectation.

[2] A registered Republican, after the death of George Joseph, Meier was asked to run for the governorship. But he failed to win support from the Republican Central Committee. He ran as an independent, winning more votes than both major party candidates combined.
