A promoter in a futuristic world dominated by robot boxing endeavors to forge stronger ties with his 11-year old son.

Charlie Kenton, a former boxer in the year 2020 who makes his trade as a fight promoter after robots replace humans in the ring and bring the sport back into worldwide prominence, loses a $20,000 bet predicated on the outcome of a match at a county fair and runs away after he is able to come up with the necessary funds to cover his loss. Called into a hearing concerning the future of his estranged 11-year old son amidst an attempt to resurrect his promoting career by refurbishing an old robot, Charlie soon realizes that the rise back to the top of the boxing world may very well go hand in hand with a desire to grow closer to his child.
