Sea captain James McKay arrives in Texas from the East Coast to marry the daughter of a rancher; he finds himself in the middle of a feud between the Terrill and the Hannasseys, neither of which represent themselves well. Expansive western, one of the best. Burl Ives won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor; the film also received a nomination for Best Dramatic Score.
