Comic-book romp focuses on the fantastical adventures of a group of "mutants" blessed with special powers.

ABSTRACT
Set in an alternate version of our Earth where humans exist side-by-side with "mutants" resembling their human counterparts in appearance but blessed with certain special abilities, X-Men focuses on the origin stories of Wolverine and Rogue, two such "mutants" whose respective statuses as such in a time where they are viewed with distrust by humans places them at the center of a conflict between warring mutant factions. A runaway success with audiences and, to a somewhat lesser extent, critics, X-Men kicked off a major mainstream revival of superhero films by risk-averse studios eager to maximize returns.
