Retelling of Mississippi Mermaid follows a wealthy man's self-destructive quest to win the heart of an impossibly attractive woman.

ABSTRACT
Remake of Mississippi Mermaid (1969). Wealthy coffee exporter Luis Antonio Vargas solicits a mail-order bride, "winning" the services of what appears to be a rather unremarkable American woman; the individual who meets Luis at the docks, named Julia Russell, ends up being quite a deal more attractive than advertised. Though Luis falls in love with his apparent bride-to-be at first sight, Julia happens to be nothing more than an elaborate con woman, one who must ultimately choose between the affections of her sadistic ex-lover and a victim she finds herself falling in legitimate love with.
