The Libertine (16-Sep-2004)

Director: Laurence Dunmore

Biographical drama showcases the tawdry life story of noble poet John Wilmot.

ABSTRACT
John Wilmot, second Earl of Rochester, drank hard and lived hard upon the restoration of King Charles II and subsequent English cultural renaissance, carving out a life for himself as a debauched alcoholic poet. The Libertine is Wilmot's amusingly tragic life story brought to the big screen, following him from a whirlwind romance with wannabe actress Elizabeth Barry through to an early grave and posthumous acclaim for his body of work.
