I have searched for this film ever since I saw it in a theater -- perhaps 20+ years ago. The emotional complexity and depth were, I thought, unusual -- particularly when society seems to be moving in the opposite direction. The film could have been simply sentimental, given the subject matter, but it clearly rose above that and was, though very sad, a statement of life as gift. I would love to see it again.
