Enigmatic British adventurer T. E. Lawrence assimilates himself into Arab culture, uniting Bedouin tribesmen to evict the Ottoman Turks from Arabia. So immersed is he in his role, Lawrence's loyalties are understandably divided. The most epic of epic films, it underwent a superb restoration in 1989. Won 7 Oscars including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography and Best Score; received additional nominations for Best Actor and Supporting Actor, and best Screenplay. Entered 1991 into the National Film Registry.
