ABSTRACT Remake of The Longest Yard (1974). Fallen English soccer star Danny "Mean Machine" Meehan, disgraced ever since he helped fix the outcome of a crucial game, is sent to prison for assault against two cops, earning the scorn of fellow inmates for his grave disservice to England's national team. The prison's warden tells Danny of his plans to assemble a semi-pro team populated by their guards; Danny offers to assemble a rival squad composed of inmates. New inmate-cum-bookie Sykes ups the ante by opening the game up for bets, forcing Danny to work overtime to put together a squad capable of winning Sykes back the fortune he lost on his rigged game.
