An amnesiac woman in distress arrives at 221B Baker Street; she turns out to be Gabrielle Valladon, wife of a Belgian mining engineer whose husband she has lost contact with. Holmes takes up the case reluctantly, mainly to get her out of their shared flat. Her story leads them to brother Mycroft Holmes, midgets, and a road trip to infamous Loch Ness. Prefixed by a bit of the detective's backstory and a silly escapade with a Russian ballerina. Mystery with touches of comedy, Billy Wilder does not disappoint.
