Kurt Russell's father, Bing Russell, was a familiar character actor in TV and movies for decades, appearing as Deputy Clem on Bonanza, and was Kurt's route to show business, often working on the same projects with young Kurt. Bing had a guest role on the TV western Sugarfoot starring Jack Elam, and six-year-old Kurt ended up with a recurring role. At 10, Kurt signed a long-term contract with Disney. At 11, he met Elvis Presley -- and kicked him, in It Happened at the World's Fair. At 12, Russell had the lead in his own TV show, The Travels of Jaimie McPheeters, a western co-starring Charles Bronson and several Osmond brothers.
Continuing his long association with Elvis, Russell provided Presley's voice for Forrest Gump, and played an Elvis impersonator in 3,000 Miles to Graceland.
