Fresh out of high school, chipper Jeanne Triplehorn became the youngest female radio DJ in America, spinning rock'n'roll records as "Jeanne Summers" during morning drive time on Tulsa's KMOD-FM. Her first TV work was co-hosting of a local late night rock'n'roll show, Night Shift. Her first paid gig as an actress was on local Channel 23's Creature Feature, where she played "Mingo Valley Girl" in comedic sketches during commercial breaks in old-time monster movies.

Tripplehorn decided to take acting seriously, attending Juilliard School of Drama. She launched her film career in Basic Instinct, where she played Michael Douglas's kinky ex-lover and shrink. In The Firm, her character was married to Tom Cruise, and she fell for Kevin Costner in soggy Waterworld. In the four-way split-screen Timecode she had an unhealthy relationship with Salma Hayek, and she played Molly Ringwald's best friend in the study of workplace politics, Office Killer.

On stage, Tripplehorn was in an all-star production of Three Sisters on Broadway, with Amy Irving and Lili Taylor as the other sisters. She also starred opposite Val Kilmer in 'Tis Pity She's a Whore.

Now past 40 -- the deadline for film stardom for women -- Tripplehorn has been demoted to TV star. She plays one of Bill Paxton's three wives in HBO's polygamist family drama, Big Love.

Her father was the long-time guitarist for the '60s band Gary Lewis & the Playboys, and performed on hits including "This Diamond Ring" and "Green Grass."
