In the 1950s, actor Barry Nelson worked frequently on live TV, on shows like The Philco Television Playhouse and Schlitz Playhouse of Stars. In 1954, Nelson appeared on CBS's anthology show Climax!, in an episode based on Ian Fleming's Casino Royale. But since James Bond wasn't yet an icon, CBS tinkered with the book -- Nelson's 007 was thoroughly American, "Jimmy Bond" instead of James, and he was a CIA agent, not on her majesty's secret service. The bad guy was Peter Lorre.

Nelson later starred on TV's My Favorite Wife. He also made a few dozen movies, including the original Airport, where Nelson was the pilot to Dean Martin's co-pilot. In his last movie, The Shining, Nelson played the manager of the Overlook Hotel.
