Croix de Guerre
HONOR
Awarded by France since 8 April 1915 for bravery in the face of the enemy, issued during the two World Wars as well as conflicts in the French colonies. This is a relatively common award, equivalent to "mentioned in dispatches." Many were issued to US and British soldiers. To confuse matters, during WWII, both the Vichy government and the Free French Forces issued awards by the same name as well. Belgium also issues a Croix de Guerre with similar design.
