Originally founded by evangelist Dwight L. Moody as the Northfield Seminary for Young Ladies (1879) and the Mount Hermon School for Boys (1881), their campuses on opposite sides of the Connecticut River, the two schools merged in 1971. The Northfield campus was closed in 2005.
