BIBLIOGRAPHY
Genus of protozoa, Parameciidae. The organism were first described by microscopist Christiaan Huygens in 1678, with the name coined by John Hill in 1752, taken from the Greek para ("on one side") + mekos "length", to match the oblong nature of the organism.
