Pro hockey franchise, established 1972 as the World Hockey Association's Winnipeg Jets. Entered the National Hockey League in 1979. Relocated to become the Phoenix Coyotes in 1996. Moved from downtown Phoenix to suburban Glendale, AZ in 2003. Team's ownership declared bankruptcy in 2009, and the franchise was operated by the league until a 2013 sale to local ownership. Rebranded the Arizona Coyotes in 2014.
