SPORTS FRANCHISE

Entered the NHL in 1926 as the Detroit Cougars, but for their first season played home games in nearby Windsor, Ontario while an arena was constructed in Detroit. Name changed to Detroit Falcons in 1930, and to Detroit Red Wings in 1932. Stanley Cup champions in 1936, 1937, 1943, 1950, 1952, 1954, 1955, 1997, 1998, 2002, and 2008.
