Chicago White Sox

SPORTS FRANCHISE

Founded 1893 as a minor league team, the Sioux City Cornhuskers, in Sioux City, Iowa. Relocated to St Paul, Minnesota in 1895 and renamed the St Louis Saints. Relocated again and renamed the Chicago White Stockings in 1900, still as a minor league team, then entered the major leagues as a charter member of the American League in 1901. AL Champions in 1901, 1906, 1917, 1919, 1959, and 2005. World Series winners in 1906, 1917, and 2005.

The team was involved in the infamous "Black Sox" scandal of 1919, when the White Sox won the AL pennant but lost the World Series to the Cincinnati Reds, after several of Chicago's star players accepted payment from gamblers to intentionally let the Reds win.
