Gender: Male Race or Ethnicity: White Sexual orientation: Straight Occupation: Diplomat Nationality: United States Executive summary: US Ambassador to Afghanistan, 1978-79 Military service: US Navy (Lt. Cmdr, WWII) Adolph "Spike" Dubs was a career diplomat and a fluent Russian speaker. He was kidnapped in 1979 Kabul by Muslim insurgents, who demanded the release of three prisoners. Dubs was killed in a firefight with Afghan security forces after he was kidnapped. Reports at the time were that the room was stormed and Dubs was unfortunately killed, but the facts are otherwise. This was not so much a "rescue mission" as it was the intentional slaughter of everyone in that particular Kabul hotel room from outside the building -- knowing full well that the American ambassador was present and would almost certainly be killed. Wife: Mary Ann Dubs
