While East German coaches admitted the steroid program, Ender herself claims her miraculous performance was not enhanced: "Every victory is a result of sweat... Anyone who claims that the East German doping machine just churned out masses of Olympic winners knows nothing about performance sports." However, she later admitted receiving injections for post-competition "regeneration" and "recuperation" which caused her an 18-pound weight gain.
