Gender: Male Race or Ethnicity: White Sexual orientation: Straight Occupation: Actor Nationality: United States Executive summary: Replaced Clayton Moore as TV's Lone Ranger Military service: US Army (WWII) Studied acting at Pasadena Playhouse before signing a contract with Paramount. World War II interrupted his career, and in 1947 he played the lead in a 15-episode serial, Jack Armstrong: The All-American Boy. Following that he entered a slump, landing only undistinguished and often uncredited film roles. But in 1952, during Clayton Moore's contract dispute with George W. Trendle, Hart appeared as the title character for 52 episodes of the The Lone Ranger. The reason for the dispute remains hazy, Trendle (a notorious cheapskate) suggesting it was over money, but Moore in his autobiography claimed it was over the public's identification of Moore as the Lone Ranger. The dispute somehow settled, Hart relinquished his role. A second serial, The Adventures of Captain Africa followed, and then in 1957 he was cast as the star of Hawkeye and the Last of the Mohicans, with Lon Chaney, Jr. playing Chingachgook. Hart reprised his Lone Ranger role in episodes of The Greatest American Hero (1981), and Happy Days (1982). He died in 2009 at his home in Mexico, sufferering dementia in his ending years.
