Independent. Ran for Mayor of San Francisco in 1979, and was a member of that city's Board of Supervisors 1971-86. He resigned to join the California State Senate 1986-98 (he frequently focused on transportation issues, a sore point in the San Francisco Bay Area), and then became a Superior Court judge in San Mateo County. For several years Kopp was a well-regarded KGO talk radio host, known for his outspokenness and iconoclastic views.
