Jane Curtin AKA Jane Therese Curtin Born: 6-Sep-1947 Birthplace: Cambridge, MA
Gender: Female Religion: Roman Catholic Race or Ethnicity: White Sexual orientation: Straight Occupation: Actor Party Affiliation: Democratic Nationality: United States Executive summary: SNL, Third Rock from the Sun Jane Curtin dropped out of college to pursue comedy, joining the troupe The Proposition in 1968, and performing with them until 1972. She starred in Pretzels, a play written by Curtin and Fred Grandy, which ran off-Broadway for 3½ months in 1974.
Curtin was an original Not Ready For Prime Time Player on Saturday Night Live, often as the straight-woman, playing prim characters driven to frustration by John Belushi or Chevy Chase. Her best SNL bits included Prymaat Conehead (matriarch of the Conehead family), Enid Loopner (making egg salad sandwiches for Gilda Radner's Lisa and nerdy Bill Murray), and parodies of the 1970s closing bit on 60 Minutes, which featured Shana Alexander (mimicked by Curtin) on the left vs. James J. Kilpatrick on the right (mimicked by Dan Aykroyd) on the right. Curtin also anchored "Weekend Update" solo in 1976-77, with Aykroyd in 1977-78, and with Murray from 1978-80. She was the only cast member who wasn't part of SNL's backstage hard-partying scene, preferring instead to relax quietly at home in Connecticut with her husband. Along with the rest of the original cast, Curtin left the show after the 1979-80 season.
She went on to star in two long-running sitcoms, Kate & Allie with Susan Saint James (1984-89) and Third Rock from the Sun with John Lithgow (1996-2001).
Curtin's uncle, Joseph Curtin, was a big star in radio dramas, and played Nick Charles in The Thin Man on radio.
