Two years later he co-founded Can, an influential experimental krautrock band. In 1977 he was succeeded as bassist by Traffic's Rosko Gee. He then pursued a solo career, including notably Movies (1979), arguably his greatest album. Czukay refers to himself as an "acoustic-electric landscape painter", one of his primary instruments the splicing of audio tape. In 2017, two months after the death of his wife, Czukay was found dead at the former Can studio in Weilerswist, near Cologne. Wife: Ursula (d. 2017)
