Superstar outfielder and first-baseman for the St Louis Cardinals of the 1940s and '50s, though he actually started in the minor leagues as a pitcher. Won seven National League batting titles, three Most Valuable Player awards, and led the Cardinals to three World Series championships as a player and a fourth as General Manager in 1967. Lifetime batting average: .331, with 475 home runs, 1,951 runs-batted-in. Fielding average: .984 in the outfield, .992 at first base.

Also worth noting: Musial was married to his childhood sweetheart for more than 70 years, with four children and zero scandals. His friend Willie Mays said, "I never heard anybody say a bad word about him -- ever."
