Longtime aide to Ronald Reagan who began as his campaign manager during Reagan's 1966 bid for California governor. He was brought to the White House in 1981 as Assistant to the President for Political Affairs. Nofziger left government a year later, but not before using his position as a White House staffer to arrange a defense contract for Wedtech. He was convicted in this matter but the conviction was overturned on appeal, due both to lack of intent proven (a necessary predicate) and vagueness of the statute.
