Executive summary: Host of the Miss America Pageant

From 1954 to 1979 Parks hosted the Miss America Pageant. Directors wanted a younger host; he was fired via a letter sent to his home. As he was on vacation, Parks discovered his firing via the news. The public in general was outraged. His replacement was Ron Ely, and later Gary Collins. In the 1990 film The Freshman, he sang his signature song, There She Is, to a lizard.
