Jack Chick became a Christian during his honeymoon in Canada. Before becoming a writer of evangelical tracts, Chick worked as a technical illustrator for AstroScience Inc., a defense contractor based in Los Angeles, CA. Originally Chick did all of the artwork himself, but in 1972 he began outsourcing the tract illustrations to a black pastor named Fred Carter. Carter now does all of the Chick illustrations. Comparisons from before and after 1972 show Carter's style as markedly more realistic than Chick's characteristic style. Not only a publisher of evangelical reading material, in 2003 Chick wrote the screenplay for The Light of the World.
