Executive summary: Double Duty

Nicknamed "Double Duty" (by Damon Runyon) when during a double header he played one game as a pitcher and a second as catcher. He played ball for a wide variety of Negro League teams from the 1920s to the 1950s, spanning from the Detroit Stars to the Homestead Grays to the Elmwood Giants (over 30 teams in all), totalling in excess of 4,000 hits and 400 runs. While certainly one of the best players of all time -- claims that he was the best player are exaggerations -- his salary at its peak ($850/year) came nowhere near what comparable white players were earning during the period. At the time of his death in 2005, aged 103, he was the oldest living professional baseball player on record.
