In 1989, Kari Tupper publicly accused Senator Adams in The Seattle Times of having dosed her with a date-rape drug, stripped her naked, and groped her in March 1987. The revelations forced Adams to quit his 1992 re-election campaign, citing "hypothetical comments by hypothetical people."
