Official painter to the Duke of Lorraine, and the preeminent painter in Lorraine for four decades. He influenced and was influenced by Mannerist printmaker Jacques Callot. Déruet had apprenticed under Jacques Bellange and later studied under Antonio Tempesta in Rome.
