[1] During an evening ceremony honoring the outgoing deputy ambassador to Sudan George Curtis Moore, members of the Palestinian terrorist Black September Organization seize the embassy and take ten hostages. When it becomes clear that their demands will not be met, both of the American diplomats and Belgian Chargé d'Affaires Guy Eid are shot to death; the remaining hostages are released the following day.
