[1] A private individual who never married, Gould was long rumored to have been asexual, but in 2007 a mistress revealed that she had left her husband to cohabit with Gould for four and a half years: "I think there were a lot of misconceptions about Glenn and it was partly because he was so very private. But I assure you, he was an extremely heterosexual man. Our relationship was, among other things, quite sexual."
