Beginning his music career in Trinidad as a popular calypso performer, Arrow became the world's most visible purveyor of soca, a style of calypso that combines other forms such as soul and traditional African music. Some of his songs made an impact in American and British dance clubs, but he was best known in the United States through Buster Poindexter (David Johansen)'s 1987 cover version of Hot Hot Hot. His popularity in the Carribean, on the other hand, was enormous from the time he was first crowned "Calypso Monarch of Monserrat" in 1971 until his death in 2010.
