 Karen Hughes worked as a television reporter during the 1980s for KXAS-TV, then Texas press coordinator for Ronald Reagan's 1984 re-election campaign. From 1991 to 1993, she served as Executive Director of the Texas Republican party. She worked on both of George W. Bush's gubernatorial campaigns as well as his 2000 Presidential campaign, in the capacity of Director of Communications, although she is convinced that the press does not like her. After the election, she served as counselor to the President. According to CNN in 2001, Hughes was "the most influential person in Bush's political life"; according to Time, "the most powerful woman to ever serve in a White House". Hughes resigned April 2002 to spend more time with her family.  In 2005, Bush appointed her Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy. Father: Harold R.
