Bubka currently holds the World Record for both indoor (1993) and outdoor (1994) pole vault, and is the only person to have jumped higher than 20 feet in competition. He won the Gold medal in six consecutive IAAF pole vault championships: 1983, 1987, 1991, 1993, 1995, and 1997, and an Olympic Gold Medal in 1988. Bubka retired from competition in 2001.
