Real estate magnate. Paid $12.5M for the Los Angeles Clippers in 1981.
For the good part of a week in April 2014, controversy stormed after a recording surfaced where Sterling demanded his half-black girlfriend not bring her black friends to Clippers games (though it was acceptable if she slept with them). On 29 April 2014, following a thorough investigation NBA Commissioner Adam Silver banned Sterling for life from the NBA, fined him the maximum amount of $2.5M, and initiated proceedings to force the sale of the team. Sterling admitted it was his voice on the recording.
