Fashion photographer, whose photographs of street wear as well as society events appeared in the Sunday New York Times for nearly forty years. In public Cunningham would often photograph ordinary people whose fashion he found worthy of note. Disdaining self-promotion, he never saw the feature documentary about him, Bill Cunningham New York (2010), though he did allow to photograph its opening night party. Cunningham resided in a small flat above Carnegie Hall, filed largely with filing cabinets of photographs. He died aged 87 a short time after suffering a stroke.
