Bobby Brown AKA Robert Barisford Brown Born: 5-Feb-1969 Birthplace: Boston, MA
Gender: Male Race or Ethnicity: Black Sexual orientation: Straight Occupation: Singer Nationality: United States Executive summary: My Prerogative Bobby Brown began performing with schoolmates Michael Bivins and Ricky Bell in 1978, in the group that eventually became New Edition. He was the youngest member of the band, and the first to go solo, in 1986. His second album, Don't Be Cruel, was a popular mix of classic soul, synth-funk, and hip-hop, and won him his first solo Grammy and his unofficial title "the King of New Jack Swing". His hits included "My Prerogative" and "Every Little Step". Brown met his future wife Whitney Houston at the Soul Train Music Awards, and they married in 1992.
In 1993, Brown was arrested for "an overly suggestive stage performance" in Georgia. In 1995, he was arrested after a fistfight at Disney World. Later that year he was charged with battery after allegedly kicking a hotel security guard. In 1996, he wrecked a rental Porsche while driving drunk. In 1997, Houston suffered facial cuts allegedly inflicted by Brown in an argument. In 1998, he was arrested for sexual battery, served five days for the Porsche wreck, and was arrested again when he showed up at jail drunk. In 2000, he served 26 days in jail for a cocaine-related probation violation.
In 2002, he was arrested for possession of marijuana, speeding, and having no driver's license or proof of insurance. In 2003, he was sentenced to eight days in jail for drunk driving, and later that year he was arrested for violating probation when he flew to L.A. to perform in an awards ceremony, despite a court order than he not leave Georgia. In 2004, he was briefly jailed for failure to pay child support for two of his three children born out of wedlock. He was ten years in arrears, and told the judge he had no source of income, but came up with $63,500 after the first night of a 90-day sentence.
Brown has said that with his marriage, his career seemed to go downhill and his drug use began to grow. Despite having made millions, he has little money left of his own. After constant battles with drugs and each other, Brown and Houston separated in October 2006, and their Georgia mansion and numerous possessions were subsequently sold to settle long-overdue mortgage payments and other debts.
